GTA 6 Vice City vs Real Miami: Every Location Mapped
Vice City is Miami with the names changed, and Leonida is Florida. Knowing which real place each area is drawn from makes the map far easier to read before you ever load the game.
Vice City neighbourhoods and their Miami originals
Rockstar rebuilt Miami closely enough that neighbourhoods map onto real counterparts rather than being loose impressions. Ocean Drive becomes Ocean Beach, Brickell becomes Downtown Vice City, Wynwood becomes Stockyard, and Little Havana becomes Little Cuba.
PortMiami appears as Vice City Port. The pattern is consistent: geography and character are preserved while the names shift just far enough to avoid using the real ones.
The rest of Leonida
Leonida extends well past the city. Named areas include the Leonida Keys, Mount Kalaga National Park, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Grassrivers — covering the Florida Keys, inland state park country, panhandle port towns and the Everglades respectively.
Grassrivers is the clearest translation: the Everglades are literally named for a river of grass, and the wetland footage shown in trailers matches that region.
How exact is the recreation?
Closer than previous entries, but still compressed. Rockstar maps are never one-to-one scale reproductions — travel distances are shortened and landmarks are repositioned so the world reads well at gameplay speed.
Treat neighbourhood mapping as reliable and street-level mapping as approximate. Individual buildings have been identified by the community from trailer footage, but those identifications are inference rather than anything Rockstar has confirmed.
Frequently asked
Is Vice City based on Miami?+
Yes. Vice City is a fictionalised Miami, and the surrounding state of Leonida stands in for Florida.
What is Grassrivers in GTA 6?+
Grassrivers is the in-game wetland region corresponding to the Everglades, which are commonly described as a river of grass.
Is the GTA 6 map an exact copy of Miami?+
No. Neighbourhoods map closely onto real counterparts, but distances are compressed and landmarks repositioned, as in every Rockstar open world.
