GTA 6 Editions and Price: Standard vs Ultimate
Rockstar kept the game line-up simple: two editions, no ten-tier collector ladder. Here is what each costs, what separates them, the one detail about physical copies that has caught buyers out, and the $400 merchandise box that is not a game edition at all.
The two editions
GTA 6 ships in a Standard Edition at $79.99 and an Ultimate Edition at $99.99, on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This makes GTA 6 the first Rockstar title with an $80 standard price.
The Standard Edition is the complete game. Nothing about the single-player campaign is held back behind the Ultimate tier — the premium is cosmetic and in-game content, not story.
What the extra $20 buys
The Ultimate Edition adds in-game content — vehicles, cosmetic items and additional activity content — plus a one-month GTA+ subscription when pre-ordered.
Whether that is worth $20 depends entirely on how much you value cosmetics. If you are buying GTA 6 for the campaign, the Standard Edition is the complete experience and the cheaper choice.
Physical copies have no disc
This is the detail worth knowing before you buy a boxed copy: physical versions contain a download code in the box rather than a game disc. Rockstar made this choice to support the November 12 preload.
Practically, that means a physical copy offers no storage advantage, cannot be resold as a working disc, and still requires the full download. If you were buying physical to save drive space, it does not work that way.
Where to pre-order
Official channels only: the Rockstar Store, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Store. These are the three places a legitimate GTA 6 pre-order exists.
Third-party sites offering GTA 6 at a steep discount are selling either stolen keys or nothing at all. A brand-new Rockstar release does not get discounted 50 percent before launch, and the price is the clearest signal available.
A separate purchase: the soundtrack album
On September 16, Rockstar confirmed "Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album" — 34 original tracks releasing the same day as the game, November 19. Limited-edition 2LP vinyl and CD sets are available to pre-order for up to $125.
This is a separate, optional purchase from the game itself and has no bearing on which game edition you choose — Standard and Ultimate both get the same soundtrack in-game either way.
The $400 collector’s box does not include the game
On September 24, Rockstar revealed "The Goodtime State — Vice City Collection," a $399.99 (£350) merchandise box themed around the in-fiction TV show Macca the Gator. It ships with 11 physical items — a Macca the Gator figure, GTA VI-branded Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a New Era snapback, a "Leonida Keys" bag and more — shipping November 19, the same day as the game.
The critical detail buyers keep missing: this box does not include a copy of the game. It is sold separately, on top of whichever game edition you buy. It also drew immediate backlash and comparisons to Red Dead Redemption 2’s collector’s edition, partly because of the price (nearly 4x RDR2’s $99.99 box) and partly because, like the base game, it still has no game disc inside it.
As of announcement, the box is only confirmed available in the US/UK; availability for Asia, Latin America and Australia is still marked TBA.
